Records and evidence
We need to keep suitable records and evidence of our developmental experience so that we can claim appropriate recognition and reward.
Demonstrating that you are a reflective practitioner
You may like to bear in mind the following description of what reflective teachers do:
A reflective teacher
- examines, frames and attempts to resolve the dilemmas of classroom practice;
- is aware of and questions the assumptions and values he or she brings to teaching;
- is attentive to the institutional and cultural contexts in which he or she teaches;
- takes part in curriculum development and is involved in (institutional) change efforts;
- and takes responsibility for his or her own professional development.
(Zeichner and Liston 1996: 11, cited in Bailey et al, 2001: 39)
A teaching journal is ideal for recording your thoughts on what you have learned from experience, in addition to the suggestions already made, you might like to use something like the grid below as a quick way to keep a record.

This can contribute to a more elaborate record, for example if you apply for promotion or other rewards.
