Researching your teaching
Why research teaching?
As well as researching your subject, there is potential to research the teaching, or pedagogy, of your subject.
- Research into the teaching of a particular subject or discipline may suggest that it has specific characteristics
- Evidence may emerge that certain approaches to teaching are effective for particular subjects.
- All practice should be informed by evidence and it is therefore legitimate to try to gain evidence from the practice of teaching.
- Through research, teaching becomes a scholarly activity, aligning it with the research ethos of the higher education sector and creating a stronger relationship between the teaching and research elements of the HE practitioner's role.
